I was a bundle of nerves the night before. I wasn’t sure how the inmates would treat me; I wasn’t sure what to expect. Would it be like the movies? Would my life be in danger?
The morning of May 25th my group arrived at Coxsackie Correctional Facility, a maximum security prison complete with armed guard towers and two-story high razor wire fencing. Our group was buzzed into the front gate; correctional officers photocopied our identifications; then invisible stamps were placed on the backs of our hands. After checking in, we were escorted to a conference room where we met with the Superintendent of the prison and his executive team. This would be the first of many meetings that day.
