Hi all,
This is Wendy Yu. It is nice to finally meet you all online. After struggling a bit with the invitation to the blog, I am now here! This summer, I am interning at the National Disability Rights Network (NDRN) with Maribeth White. Because of my interests, I would like to focus on policies and legislations dealing with stigma and housing issues for the mentally ill for the duration of this internship.
The first week was amazingly…tough. Acronyms are used to no end. ADAAA, APA, CDC, CCD, JJ, DD, CAP, and so on. On the first day, we attended a staff meeting and sat through discussions ranging from schools and restraint to mental illness to 14C. Thankfully our supervisor was sympathetic and willing to clear up any clouds of confusion.
I think I’ll have to end at this for now. I’m now using internet that costs me $12.95 per day in Westin Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles. Maribeth and I are now in Los Angeles for an annual training conference planned by NDRN and the California Protection and Advocacy (P&A). We’re both excited to be moderators for a session tomorrow.
Wish us luck!
Wendy
